Yesterday, EssExTee posted about one of the most brilliant pieces of fiction I have ever read. Before you go further, you must go and read this story. It’s superb! I’m not much of one for sports but I read this in one sitting.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
As absolutely amazing as the story F !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is, this isn’t about that. Jon Bois, the author of that cerebral multimedia experience I just mentioned, wrote another slightly more convention piece of sports fiction that most of you would very much enjoy.
It’s called !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Without ruining too much, it’s a hilarious story of how Tim Tebow goes rogu e in the Canadian Football league by complete accident.
Still not convinced? This will be slightly more spoilers than I would have preferred but here it goes.
Basically he is thrust into a football game that lasts a decade, only a few minutes of that which is played inside the stadium. If you’ve read !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! you will begin to see a pattern here with Job Bois and absurd cross country football.
If Jon Bois’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is the best piece of fiction I’ve read this year, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is the second best. It really is that good.
What are you waiting for? Read the dang thing! You won’t regret it! Go, have fun!

I more refer to the type of rogue that includes him and his team hiking on foot from Toronto across the Canadian wilderness still fending off the opposing team and still advancing the line of scrimmage.
You won’t regret reading that. I don’t usually care much for sports but it is absolutely brilliant. It is to sports what Top Gear is to cars. You don’t have to be a fanatic to find it supremely enjoyable.

Re-read that phrase...
(“rouge” vs “rogue”)

And then go watch/read/listen to everything else Hon Bois has ever published.
You can thank me later.

I can thank you n ow. I’m well into Breaking Madden and Chart Party. His work is unmistakable. I really wonder what program he uses to create his visuals.

It’s a years-long epic. His ability to understand data and then visualize it and then actually tell an amazing story, and set it all to the most perfect soundtrack— he’s kinda my hero.
He uses google earth a lot.
To great effect.
Not to mention all the crazy console stuff.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen visuals like his. And as far as I’m concerned that’s a good thing because Jon Bois is just so Jon Bois.

Yep. He’s just insanely good.
Like, I desperately want to be able to tell the stories he blows your mind with.
But he found and figured out those stories.
And then he figured out how to tell them.
And published them.
With the right visuals. And the soundtrack. And the thing that I think is missing in most of the crits of his is: he’s FUCKING HILARIOUS.
I’ve never been more amazed, or laughed harder, or hoped more, and there is no one in the business of comedy, or history, who comes close.
I’’ll reiterate: Jon Bois is a National Treasure, deserving of a massive grant for doing what he does, and no one comes close to how brilliant he is, regardless the medium.

National treasure indeed. I think it is his proficiency in such diverse mediums that continues to amaze me.

The funny thing is he almost went rouge because that’s an actual scoring play in the CFL...

I just finished reading through that (took me til now cos I have shit to do, like opening bags of milk for the kid’s cereal)
That was fantastic and as a Toronto resident I kind of want to use that route
as a basis for a road trip at least to Ottawa one time.

That was not even close to the ending i expected when I picked it up. It really kept me engaged and kept on surprising me. Though I totally called the laundry shoot incident.
Can that route even be replicated via road trip? I'm not very familiar with Canadian geography but it seems like you don't have a lot of north/south roads that go that far up.
If that tickled your fancy, you should read the other Jon Bois story I linked here which is even better.
